Kids Games LLC, a studio known for its quirky and minimalist approach to mobile gaming, has ventured into the physics-puzzle genre with MelonBox. This game blends the chaotic fun of fruit slicing with the strategic depth of box-stacking puzzles, creating a unique experience that stands out in a crowded market. The sound effects are crisp and satisfying, with each melon splat or box crash delivering a gratifying audio cue that enhances the tactile feedback. The art style is equally charming, featuring bright, cartoonish visuals that pop on screen—think of it as a cross between a fruit market and a construction site, all rendered in a clean, flat design that feels both playful and polished.
The storyline in MelonBox is lighthearted and whimsical: you play as a fruit-loving inventor trying to build the ultimate melon pyramid to impress a mysterious judge. However, the real draw is the gameplay mechanics. Special techniques revolve around precision and timing—you must slice melons mid-air to split them into smaller pieces that fit perfectly into boxes, then stack those boxes carefully to avoid collapse. The physics engine is robust, making each drop feel realistic, but it can also be unforgiving, sometimes leading to frustrating moments where a single misstep undoes minutes of work. This balance between challenge and fun keeps you coming back, though the difficulty spikes randomly in later levels could use smoothing.
My overall impression is that MelonBox is a delightful, if occasionally rough, gem. It excels at creating that "just one more try" feeling, thanks to its addictive loop and vibrant presentation. However, the lack of a diverse soundtrack—the background music repeats after a few minutes—and a minimal tutorial for advanced techniques like stacking angles can leave new players lost. Despite these flaws, Kids Games LLC has crafted a game that's easy to pick up but hard to master, making it a solid choice for puzzle fans seeking a fresh twist. With a bit more polish in difficulty pacing and audio variety, MelonBox could truly shine.
How to play?
🎯 Step 1: Launch MelonBox and tap "Play." You'll see a screen with falling melons and a grid below—this is your workspace. Start by observing the first melon's trajectory as it drops from the top; it moves in a predictable arc.
🍉 Step 2: Swipe your finger across the screen to slice the melon as it falls. Aim for a clean cut to split it into two equal halves. Smaller pieces are easier to fit into the boxes on the grid below. Practice slicing at different angles to control piece size.
📦 Step 3: Once sliced, the melon halves drop onto the grid. Drag each half into an empty box by tapping and holding, then sliding it into position. Boxes can only hold one piece at a time, so think ahead—prioritize filling boxes on lower rows first to build a stable base.
🧩 Step 4: Stack filled boxes by dragging them onto each other. Ensure the bottom box is full before adding another on top; otherwise, the stack may topple. Use the on-screen arrow indicator (shown in red if unstable) to check balance before releasing.
⏱️ Step 5: Manage your time—each level has a timer bar at the top. Slice and stack quickly to earn bonus points, but don't rush. A single misaligned box can cause a chain reaction collapse, wasting your progress. Calm precision beats speed here.
🔄 Step 6: When melons spawn in groups, prioritize slicing overlapping ones to create smaller chunks. Use the pause button (top-right) to survey the grid mid-level and plan your next move. This is key for crowded levels with multiple dropping fruits.
🏆 Step 7: Complete the level by filling all boxes in a stable tower without exceeding the height limit (shown as a dashed line). If you fail, tap "Retry" to restart—each attempt teaches better angles. Unlock new melon types later, like explosive watermelons that help clear grids faster.
