Level Devil - NOT A Troll Game, developed by WebVentures B.V., is a deceptively titled platformer that thrives on chaos and misdirection. The game masquerades as a simple side-scrolling adventure, but its true nature is a test of patience and reaction time. The developer, known for their experimental projects, has crafted an experience that blends classic platforming mechanics with a cruel, unpredictable twist. The pixel art style is deliberately retro, evoking the 8-bit era with its blocky characters and vibrant, albeit simplistic, backgrounds. The sound design follows suit, featuring chiptune tracks that shift from upbeat to frantic as the level's traps spring to life, and satisfying thuds when you inevitably fail.

The game's narrative is minimal, but effectively framed through its title. It starts as a typical "hard but fair" platformer, where you control a character named "The Adventurer" through a series of levels. However, the "NOT a troll game" tag is an ironic lie. The core gameplay revolves around subverting your expectations. Platforms vanish when you step on them, spikes erupt from solid ground, and the camera might suddenly shift, making you plunge into a pit. Special techniques involve learning to distrust every visual cue. For example, the "safe zone" at the beginning of a level might actually feature a fake coin that, when touched, triggers a wall of spikes. These "trap tricks" are not bugs but features, making every moment a high-stakes gamble. The game excels at creating a unique tension, where victory feels less like a skill accomplishment and more like a cunning manipulation of the developer's traps.

Despite its clever design, the game has notable shortcomings. The difficulty spikes are incredibly harsh, often relying on trial-and-error where the only way to progress is to die repeatedly to learn the exact sequence of traps. This can feel tedious rather than rewarding, especially in later levels. The lack of a save system between sections means one mistake can send you back to the very start of a long stage. Overall, Level Devil is a brilliant, sadistic puzzle wrapped in a platformer's skin. It challenges not just your reflexes, but your fundamental trust in game design. For players who enjoy getting cleverly tricked and can laugh at their own failures, this is a must-play. For those seeking a fair challenge, it is a nightmare of pure, unadulterated tomfoolery that may leave you throwing your controller. The game earns a solid 7.5/10 for its sheer audacity and unique vision, losing points for its repetitive trial-and-error structure.

How to play?

🔴 Step 1: Boot up the game and move your character using the left/right arrow keys or A/D to start the level. Take a deep breath and accept that you will die. A lot. The game's title is a lie, so do not trust anything.

🟡 Step 2: Watch the screen carefully for initial cues. A platform might look stable, but tap the forward key gently first. If a block wiggles or a suspicious light flickers, it's a trap. Move slowly; the game punishes speed early on.

🟢 Step 3: Use the spacebar or up arrow to jump. Always double-jump over gaps, even if the gap seems small. The ground may crumble the moment you land. Press the jump button again mid-air to activate a second jump, which is essential for escaping sudden spike columns.

🔵 Step 4: Identify collectibles. Coins often float in locations that look unreachable. They are bait. Avoid them until you see another player complete the level, or use them to test if a platform is real. Stepping on a coin might trigger a ceiling crusher.

🟣 Step 5: Master the dash technique. Hold the sprint key (Shift) only when you are certain the path is clear, but even then, be ready to press the opposite direction the moment you see a trap. A common trick is a fake floor that drops you into spikes; you have about 0.5 seconds to dash back to the previous ledge.

🟠 Step 6: Memorize the pattern. The traps are not random; they are carefully placed in a specific sequence. After dying, mentally note the location of the first trap. For example, "frame 3, the block just before the flag flips." Use short, precise combo moves: walk, jump over the trap, dash, then double-jump over a second trap.

🔴 Step 7: Take breaks. This game is designed to frustrate. If you fail a level more than 10 times, pause and step away. The final boss of Level Devil is not a demon, but your own temper. When you return, approach the level with fresh eyes, and use knowledge from your 100 deaths to skip traps entirely. Victory only comes when you outsmart the troll.
